Have you ever thought of braving the cold, bundling up and coming to Paris for Christmas? I did, many times over and almost made it in 2019, but due to a work obligation planned for early 2020, had to cancel plans. Little did I know that 2 years later, I would be living in this magical city and be able to get a first hand experience of it's season of festivities.
It will be three years on 3rd January 2025, when I got out of the CDG airport into a bleak, rainy, bone chilling night to make Paris my current home. Suffice to say, I am in love with the city for many reasons, and there are of course few reasons it also annoys me as hell.
However, one of the reasons I love it despite the freezing temperatures at the end of every year, is because the way she looks come December. This is one of the prettiest cities to visit at the end of the year and I promise you the cold is worth it. Walking down the fairy light lit up streets with their trees twinkling gold, the smell of vin chaud and churros at the Christmas markets (Paris hosted 39 across its 20 arrondisments in 2024), the horrid rain beating down your umbrella but the want to keep walking along coz everyone around you is smiling, the crowds at Galleries Lafayette, Christmas trees across the city...it's wonderful!
Check out my Paris captured this December, it's Christmas markets and the city itself. I hope you can visit this city at least once during December, if you can make it...and even if you can't, do what I still do...armchair travel through books and movies and stories and social media....
